Uzbekistan | Aluminium Chip Briquetting & Oil Recovery

Project Overview

Uzbekistan Aluminium Chip Briquetting and Cutting Oil Recovery Project

The customer is a precision casting foundry that processes approximately 80 tonnes of aluminium chips per month.

These aluminium chips retain cutting oil from the machining process. Before the project was implemented, the oil entered the collection and storage stages together with the loose chips. This not only increased oil contamination and made material management more difficult on site, but also caused a continuous loss of recoverable cutting oil.

The main objective of the project was to compress the loose aluminium chips while collecting the cutting oil separated during pressing. This would convert the chips into more compact metal briquettes while reducing the loss of cutting oil.

The customer therefore installed a Y83L-360 Vertical Metal Chip Briquetting Machine together with a fluid collection system for aluminium chip briquetting and cutting oil recovery.

Oily Aluminium Chips Required Both Volume Reduction and Cutting Oil Recovery

The customer continuously generates approximately 80 tonnes of aluminium chips per month.

Unlike dry aluminium chips, this material contains cutting oil. The project therefore needed to address not only the loose volume of the chips, but also the separation and collection of the oil.

01

Loose Aluminium Chips Occupied Considerable Space

Aluminium chips generated during machining continuously entered the collection process in a loose state. Their relatively low bulk density increased demands on workshop storage and material management.

02

Cutting Oil Entered Storage Together with the Chips

Cutting oil retained in the aluminium chips could contaminate the surrounding work area, making workshop cleaning and day-to-day material management more difficult.

03

Recoverable Cutting Oil Was Continuously Lost

If the cutting oil was lost or discarded together with the loose aluminium chips, recoverable oil was wasted and additional oil had to be purchased.

The project therefore needed to solve two issues at the same time: aluminium chip compaction and cutting oil collection.

Processing Approach

Briquetting Combines Aluminium Chip Compaction with Cutting Oil Collection

For the oily aluminium chips continuously generated by the customer, the project uses vertical metal chip briquetting as the core processing method.

After entering the Y83L-360, the loose chips are compressed under high pressure into more compact metal briquettes.

As the material is compressed, part of the cutting oil is separated from the aluminium chips and directed to the collection system.

This improves both the physical form of the chips and the handling of the oil within the same processing route. The originally loose, oily chips are converted into briquettes that are easier to store and handle, while cutting oil that might otherwise be lost is recovered.

Y83L-360 Vertical Metal Chip Briquetting Machine

The customer installed a Y83L-360 Vertical Metal Chip Briquetting Machine together with a fluid collection system to process approximately 80 tonnes of oily aluminium chips per month.

The machine compresses the loose aluminium chips under high pressure to form metal briquettes, while cutting oil separated during pressing is directed into the collection system.

In this project, the main role of the Y83L-360 is to reduce the loose volume of the aluminium chips, form more compact briquettes, and work together with the collection system to reduce cutting oil loss.

Project Results

Approx. 4–5 Tonnes of Cutting Oil Recovered per Month, Saving About USD 20,000–30,000 in Annual Oil Procurement Costs

After the project went into operation, the customer began feeding the oily aluminium chips into the Y83L-360 for centralized briquetting.

According to operating records from the project, approximately 4–5 tonnes of cutting oil are recovered each month during briquetting.

Based on the project records, recovering this oil reduces annual oil procurement costs by approximately USD 20,000–30,000.

At the same time, the originally loose aluminium chips are compressed under high pressure into more compact metal briquettes, so the chips no longer enter storage and handling in the same loose, oil-mixed condition as before.
